David A. Bellows, MD, FACS

Dr. Bellows is a board-certified ophthalmologist who founded The Medical Eye Center in 1980. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmology, a discipline that focuses on neurological diseases that affect the vision pathways within the brain.

Dr. Bellows completed his undergraduate studies with a degree in physiology from the University of Illinois. He completed his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School where he graduated in the top 10 of his class and was awarded the prize for Outstanding Performance in Surgery. In that same year, he was inducted into Alpha-Omega-Alpha, the Honorary Medical Society. Dr. Bellows completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute.

In addition to his work at The Medical Eye Center, Dr. Bellows is a staff member of the Elliot Hospital, and he serves on the editorial board of Neuro-Ophthalmology, the official publication of the European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. He has served on the faculty of Tufts/New England Medical Center and has served four terms as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Catholic Medical Center.  He has also been awarded the “Top Doc” award by New Hampshire Magazine.

Dr. Bellows is a member and/or fellow of the following professional organizations:

  • European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (EUNOS)
  • American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)
  • American College of Surgeons (ACS)

He lives in Manchester, New Hampshire where he enjoys gardening, reading, music and “tinkering” in carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.
